Learning Tools

Welcome to Learning Tools, from UBC Arts ISIT. The e-learning tools listed here have been publicly available for academic use, within and outside of the University of British Columbia. However, since the tools were built using Flash technology, they are not mobile compatible and since our funding has been exhausted we are unable to maintain and support these tools further. This site will remain accessible until April 2014 at which time it will be decommissioned.

Timeline Tool 2.0 Recently improved from Timeline 1.0, The Timeline Tool 2.0 is a web- based tool that allows an instructor to construct an interactive timeline with audio and visual effects. The new version is equipped with a "what-you-see-is-what-you-get" interface and extremely user-friendly features. The finished timeline can be re-used and easily shared over the web. Multimedia Learning Object Authoring Tool The Multimedia Learning Object Authoring Tool enables content experts to easily combine video, audio, images and texts into one synchronized learning object. All assets are configured to be played back in a pre-configured order. Handwriting Tool Handwriting Toolis a language learning tool designed to help students learn to write and use asian characters. This tool records the key strokes while a user writes the character. The recorded key strokes are then played out emulating the original writing style. Details...

Vocabulary Memorization Platform This vocabulary memorization platform is designed to help students memorize the spelling of words by playing a series of games. On the web, instructors can quickly set up a dictionary database by entering the new words with corresponding translation to be learned in a lecture and this database then be instantly plugged into the online game series for students to play with. Image Annotation The Image Annotation Tool allows instructors to upload images and quickly create text boxes referring to parts of a diagram, painting, or photo. The tool will provide a link to the annotated image which can then be distributed to students. Details...

Language Pronunciation Tool The Language Pronunciation and Comprehension Learning Tool (LPCLT) is a revolutionary linguistics toolkit designed to enhance a student's comprehension and pronunciation of a particular language. This new learning tool developed by Arts Instructional Support (Arts IS) allows professors to author vocabulary and sentence structures into an oral component, to aid students in learning to hear and speak a new language. Pachyderm Presentation to VUE Converter The Pachyderm Presentation to VUE Converter is a tool that extracts concept mapping information from a Pachyderm presentation, then converts them into one Visual Understanding Environment (VUE) file to help Pachyderm users to understand the architecture and contents of the presentation in detail.
